Partnership Schools | Kura Hourua
Charter, or Partnership schools kura hourua are a type of school in our education system, that involves the business sector and community groups in the provision of education.
The Ministry is currently working to implement the Government’s policy to remove the partnership school model from the education system. We’re engaging with all existing partnership school sponsors on a case by case basis to discuss future options within the state system, or as private schools.
See the Changes in Education section of the website for the latest information on charter or partnership schools.
About Partnership Schools
Partnership schools are required to focus on priority learners: Māori, Pasifika, learners from low socio-economic backgrounds and learners with special education needs.
Partnership schools operate under a fixed term contract and are accountable for delivering improved education outcomes.
