Collective Agreement Offer for Area School Principals
On 28 August 2019, the Ministry of Education, NZEI Te Riu Roa and PPTA signed terms of settlement for the Area School Principals’ Collective Agreement.
The offer would see all area school principals receive 3% pay increases on their roll-based and staffing-based components of their remuneration. This provides a 9.3% cumulative pay increase over the 3-year term of the agreement.
The offer lifts the salary of area school principals who lead our smallest schools (up to 50 students) to match the rate of pay for principals leading schools of up to 100 students, across roll-based and decile components. As a result an area school principal’s minimum roll based salary will be $98,031 by August 2021, an increase of around $15,900.
From 2022 an additional three sabbatical days to be focused on community leadership.
All principals who are union members will receive a one-off lump sum of $500 each.
How many area school principals are there and what year groups do they teach?
There are around 130 area school principals and they lead schools from Year 1 – 13 age groups
