Become a teacher

Return to teaching

Find a teaching job
Teachers, administrators and other support staff are directly employed by schools. Schools advertise vacancies and manage their own appointment processes.
Registration, practising certificates and LATs
All teachers in New Zealand need to be a registered teacher with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand (Teaching Council). Provisional practicing certificates and Limited Authority to Teach (LATs) are also granted by the Teaching Council.
If you’re living overseas and want to teach in New Zealand either as a New Zealand-trained teacher, or as an overseas-trained teacher, there are pathways to working as a teacher in this country.
